Physical Mediumship Far from being relegated to the history books, physical mediumship is a part of spiritualism today. The UK is extremely fortunate to have physical mediums who demonstrate their gifts at public séances far and wide. Not forgetting the home circles where 100's of mediums and sitters are diligently working with their spirit guides and developing their gifts in pursuit of physical phenomena. Spiritualism was founded upon physical mediumship. In 1848 two young girls, who later became world famous physical mediums, established communication with the spirit of a murdered tinker. The above event that took place in New York was a breakthrough. It established that not only does the human body survive death, but it is possible to communicate. From that moment onwards there was an explosion of physical phenomena right across America, reaching England in 1852. What is ectoplasm? When the spirit operators withdraw the etheric energy-matter from the medium's body, it is known as ectoplasm. It is through the ectoplasm that physical phenomena can happen. Ectoplasm can be created in many different forms dependant on what the Spirit controls wish to convey. Once created, the ectoplasm generally emerges from the medium through nose or mouth or perhaps a psychic centre, such as the solar plexus.
